Just a test of some cheaper alternative to Sculpey poly clay. I think it worked OK. The photo isn’t very good, but the critter is plenty solid and strong.

My first 3D printed object
No, I didn’t buy a 3D printer. Although that’s still on the list of things to get. Our local library has a Makerbot that they let people print to. I downloaded this from an online 3D model repository and printed it out. The library also has a 3D scanner, which I’m going to use to scan something a week from today. Anyway, here’s the first thing I created from a digital file:
Just a little troll…
Yeah, I’m still alive.
Treasure chest
Wood plank floor prototype
So this is just a prototype, I think the gaps between the boards longitudinally are too big, and there should be more gaps between the boards horizontally, but the basic idea is sound. When I get back from my writers seminar I’m totally going to make one of these for real, and then make a silicon mold and cast as many floors as I need.
Upgraded barge (again)
Upgraded barge

Second dice tray
So I gave the first dice tray I made to Waddling Dragon who sometimes comments here, and is the GM of one of my currently active games. I already had planned to make a second, and I don’t need two… Plus I want to see if I can make making these easier and more consistent. Here’s the second result:
I think I like the first one better in just the warmth of the wood and the red seems more “casinoesque”. But I am pleased with this one for the most part. It was easier to make the second one, I wasted less materials and time. I also used actual wood stain, but I think I’ll go with a lighter stain if I make more of these. In terms of use, it seems a bit “cleaner” than the first one. I have a lot fewer touch-ups to try to clean up errors than I did on the first one.
